Hey there.

Let’s go places, eat stuff, and do things.

3 Reasons Every Traveler Needs the JetBlue Plus Credit Card

3 Reasons Every Traveler Needs the JetBlue Plus Credit Card

As I started getting more and more serious about food and travel, I wanted to make sure I was equipped with a credit card that would turn my spend into benefits.

Allow me to start off by saying I don’t get paid for this. I am a full-time marketing professional and this here is my passion. Any money I’m putting towards this journey is not currently getting any reimbursement. With that being said, I’ve discovered creative ways to maximize and benefit from money spent. And one of my favorite tools right now is the JetBlue Plus Credit Card.

JetBlue has always been my preferred airline for both their quality and incredible customer service. And, now that they have international flights to South America, Europe, the Caribbean and beyond, I’m even more hooked. I’ve been a “TrueBlue” member since 2015, never paying any attention to what, if anything I was collecting. After stumbling through my account on a whim, I discovered I had about 16,000 points in the arsenal, and that JetBlue points never expire. Points = flight dollars. More points = free flights.

Intrigued by this equation and the potential for free travel, I spent a significant amount of time researching all the benefits the JetBlue Plus Credit Card offers. It was a no-brainer that I needed this in my wallet in order to get some ROI on my travel investments. And just last week, after having the card for only two months, I was able to purchase two, round-trip flights to Fort Meyers, Florida, during Massachusetts’ April school vacation week, for $22 (to cover taxes). Yes, twenty-two DOLL HAIRS. If that’s not enough draw, here are a few more reasons this premium piece of plastic is tops for travelers.

1. Crazy Good Point-earning Potential

Let’s talk about TrueBlue points. You may be wondering, do you earn them quickly enough for this to even make a difference? The answer is yes. Every dollar spent equals 1 point. But on top of that…

  • JetBlue gives you 40,000 points when you spend $1,000 within your first 90 days as a cardholder. I quickly exceeded this goal with a single purchase of two flights to Ecuador.

  • Earn 6x points on JetBlue purchases, which includes actual flight purchases, plus any in-flight purchases. Tip: book everyone in your party’s flight, and then have them Venmo you. Your points will skyrocket.

  • Get 2x points at restaurants and grocery stores. I still use my Capital One Savor card for restaurants (4x cash back), but if you’re a one card a time type, just know JetBlue does give you this extra earning potential.

  • Here’s an easy one. Do nothing, get 5,000 points on your cardholder anniversary.

2. Flight Perks & Benefits

When you’re traveling, it’s always a real treat when any part of the process is A) easier or B) cheaper. The JetBlue Plus Card achieves both by offering cardholders…

  • Free checked luggage. I don’t often check luggage, but when I do tagging on that extra $100+ really grinds my gears. When booking with your JetBlue card, you get free checked luggage for you, AND up to 3 travel companions. I now catch myself checking my carry-on, just because I can. #powermoves

  • 50% in-flight discounts. There’s nothing like that first vacation drink at the airport bar, and some of us like to keep that vibe going en route to our destination. With this card, you get 50% off in-flight food and beverage purchases, including alcohol. LFG.

3. Partner Discounts & Deals

In addition to points and travel perks, the JetBlue Plus World Elite Mastercard comes with other surprising everyday bonuses.

  • Lyft credit. Take 5 rides a month using your card and you’ll receive a $10 Lyft credit. A benefit I redeemed just two days into our LA trip since Lyft out there was significantly cheaper than Uber.

  • 5% cash rewards on Boxed. As a homeowner, there are certain things I like to buy in bulk–toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, soap, detergent, etc. Boxed is similar to Costco or BJs wholesale, but entirely online. And in addition to 5% cash rewards they always have coupon codes and free shipping on orders over $50. I recently stocked up on all of the aforementioned items for $60, which would have cost more at BJ’s/Costco. Believe me, I compared.

  • Fandango rewards. We all enjoy the occasional movie theater outing–a cost that seems to grow more and more expensive every year. As a Fandango VIP member, you earn a $5 discount reward for every 2 movie tickets you purchase. I’ll be using mine for the next Marvel film.

  • Postmates discounts. I’ll be honest, I haven’t used Postmates, mostly because I haven’t needed to. But when I do, it’s good to know that I’ll get $5 off of any $25+ purchase.

The Bottom Line

Whenever you consider opening a new credit card you always wonder, is this really going to be worth it? I can confidently say that for all the reasons above, plus others I haven’t even had a chance to dig into myself yet, the JetBlue Plus Card most certainly is. If you’re vacationing often, and especially if you’re traveling for work on top of that, you’ll definitely see and feel the benefits, and fast.
